For a normal individual, blood pressure may vary throughout the day due to different situations, mental states, and postures. Therefore, the following points should be noted during blood pressure measurement:
- Before measuring, sit quietly for a moment to calm down.
- Do not measure blood pressure immediately after emotional tension or excitement.
- Do not measure immediately after vigorous exercise or physical labour.
- Sit upright during measurement, with one side of the shirt sleeve removed, without rolling up tight sleeves, keeping the arm flat and the palm facing upward, with the upper arm and heart at the same level. If measuring in a supine position, ensure that the upper arm and heart are at the same level, not too high or too low.
- Remain calm during blood pressure measurement and do not hold your breath, as holding your breath can elevate blood pressure.
- Changes in environmental temperature can affect blood pressure. Cold environments can raise blood pressure, while high-temperature environments can lower it, and these should also be noted.
